GINGERBREAD MEN
Great fun to make with the kids
INGREDIENTS:
100 g butter
½ cup golden syrup
¼ cup sugar
1 egg
2 ½ cups flour
1 teaspoon Hansells baking powder
½ teaspoon Hansells baking soda
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¾ teaspoon ground cloves
Icing:
1cup icing sugar
2 tbs water
1-2 drops Hansells Food Colouring
INSTRUCTIONS:
Heat butter, golden syrup and sugar together in a saucepan large enough to mix all the ingredients, until butter has meltedCool slightly then beat in the eggSift in the flour, baking powder, soda, ginger, cinnamon and ground clovesMix until well combinedRefrigerate for 30 minutesRoll dough out on a lightly floured board to 0.5 cm thicknessUsing a gingerbread man cutter or cardboard template, cut dough into shapesPlace on a baking paper lined oven trayBake at 180°C for 10 minutes or until lightly brownedWhen cold, decorate with icing piped from a plastic bag with the corner cut from it and with edible decorations of your choice Icing:Mix icing sugar with enough water together to make a pipeable icing. Mix in one to two drops of Hansells food colouring of your choice
