American Frosting

Serving size: Makes enough for a medium to large size cake

Cream of tartar helps to make icings fluffy and creamy. Recipe by Robyn Martin from the Hansells Little Book of Baking Basics.

Makes enough for a medium to large size cake

INGREDIENTS:

1 Egg White

3/4 Cup Sugar

1/4 teaspoon Cream of Tartar

2 Tablespoons of Water

1/2 Teaspoon Hansells Natural Vanilla Essence

 

SERVING SUGGESTION:

Place the egg white, sugar, cream of tartar in the top of a double boiler or in a heatproof bowl. Beat to combine the mixture with a rotary beater, hand held beater or wand. Place over the double boiler or other saucepan and beat until the mixture forms soft peaks. Mix in the vanilla or other flavouring and colouring if wished. Remove from the saucepan of hot water and continue beating until forms stiff peaks. Use as required.
